In the last few years more and more people have began to use Internet phone services because they are already paying for a broadband connection why not get cheap phone service. Vonage is one of the biggest internet phone companies and they have plans that start out as little as $14.99, while Skype charges a little less they are much better suited for making calls from your pc. But today a new startup company called Ooma is releasing a box that connects to your broadband connection and to a regular phone that will allow you to make calls to any phone without any monthly fees. Sounds to good to be true, well the only catch is that you have to buy to Ooma hub for $399, which is a one time fee and after that you are good to go. International calls will be priced anywhere from 1-8 cents a minute depending on where the call is made to. They also offer an add-on for other rooms in the house called scouts, which will be priced at $39. While I think landline telephones will become a thing of the past I believe it will be cell phones to take over not internet based phone services, because without a rock solid internet connection the reliability and sound quality suffer greatly with internet phone services. One day the technology may be there for these types of services but until then why pay another service or for more hardware when almost everyone has a cell phone.
