There is a new phone out that is not tied to any specific network and runs on a Linux OS. The first version of the Neo1973 may not be competition for the iPhone yet but a second version due out in October really should be. Version 1 of the neo is a pretty nice phone that features a 2.8 vga touch screen, microsd card slot, USB port and 2.5g Gsm quad band capabilities, all for about 300 bucks. Version 2 of the Neo1973 is where I think it will get interesting seeing as it will have all of the above features plus wifi, gps 3d acceleration and a bigger processor for about 450, still cheaper than the iPhone. One feature that is lacking on the Neo1973 is no camera, which by cell phone standards today is a must. While I don’t agree with some people that think this new phone will the “iPhone Killer” I do like the fact that it can at least compete. You have to give Apple credit for one thing for sure, they are driving other companies to get more creative.
