Haven’t we all seen enough of the shooter games in last 10 years? This is the question that I ponder as all the hype about Halo 3 hit the market. So what’s the big deal about this game? Isn’t it just another shooter game? I personally haven’t played any version of Halo nor do I wish to. So come on game developers, develop something other than a shooter. Be orginal and test the market, you might be surprised the response you get.
Halo 3, what’s the big deal?

I always find it humorous when people go out of their way to publicly berate something, and then coin the ubiquitous “I haven’t read/played/seen it or any of its predecessors, but…”
It’s like saying, “Hey, what’s the big deal about Star Wars? I haven’t seen any of them, but they have lasers and aliens, right? Haven’t we seen enough lasers and aliens?”
Despite the genre of game, there -is- a context that needs to be considers. The Halo series, other than being a shooter, is perhaps one of the most well-polished game series in history. The presentation of story and gameplay elements are superb, in addition to just being really fun games to play.
The second one ended in a big cliffhanger, hence the effectiveness of the third installment’s hype.
A first person game doesn’t have to automatically be a bad game because there are a ton out there - only about 25% of them are any good, and that’s because they are put together extremely well. It’s the same as getting sick of movies because they all are third-person perspective.
Good point Mannpower.
I probably should have done more research on the Halo series before forming a negative opinion about it. Truth be told, if I were to get my hands on this game there would be many sleepless nights ahead in my future. I love gaming but try to stay away from it because of the time it takes to play today’s games.
All in all, maybe I was just voicing my frustration with gaming and trying to talk myself out of buying this one. LOL.
Have a good day, mate!
Hi,
I’m not much of a gamer but like lot of what’s available today it looks ‘interesting’ to say the least. I would like to see more of the ‘Sim’ style games - build not destroy - as well.
But I do enjoy car chase/shoot-em-up/etc. movies. Maybe someday I will be able to afford a gaming computer.
Thanks, for the comment Bob.
Maybe a gaming console would get you by until you can get your gaming computer. I prefer the console b/c there is no worry about specs. Just pop the game in and play.
I gotta agree with the man, Halo 3 is just a very very overated shooter. As he points out with jumping stupidity, all along with the whole no recoil aspect…how hard is it to shoot someone when the gun doesnt move when its fired? Why are the physics so lame, why isn’t there any blood? Im sure its fun, but as far as the best game and what not all these little fanboys cry out about. The real shooter is counter-strike…hands down sorry halo loses. Even like 1.6 is still more realistic. Either way, love it or hate it, its just another shooter to be outdone when the next comes around. COD4 !!
Let’s just re-release Doom. LOL.
Haha hey Doom was the shit when it came out, god that takes me back to grade school.
Yeah, console beats computers in that you don’t have to rely on the gear in the box. But games like WoW and SWG will never hit console and that kinda sucks. But shit, GoW will never hit PC so oh well….
Hi all,
I actually posted a lot of info on my blog about halo3 simply because it was huge, my sons play halo1 and halo2 and they can’t get enough of it. Ok i’m 44 and I simply don’t understand what the big deal is about any of the halos and i’m not completely ignorant either. I’m a die hard playstation fan who loves rpg’s (yes even at my age)
It’s down to personal preference in the end, i’ve never enjoyed just plain shoot-em-ups which halo 1 and 2 remind me of, yes I know there is a story line but i’m more into the deeper rpg’s like final fantasy and tomb raider, you know with all the extra stuff, solving puzzles, finding secrets along the way of solving the actual game.
Great blog by the way, glad I found it.
Tony:)
I agree 100% with you Tony. Even with the storyline it’s still a shooter. I also love rpg’s, especially the Tomb Raider series. I have spent many hours in front of the tube playing that one. I got frustrated at one point b/c I was stuck and went bought the book to help me through. It felt like cheating a bit, but I got over it quick. LOL.
Thanks for the comment!
Very nice reading and it works me well. Thanks for it.
If you played the beta, most of it will probably not be new to you, but still cool to look at.
